What inspired you to create a Fairtrade and GOTS accredited range of bedding, bath and basics.

Seeing first hand in India and Bangladesh the issues people on the ground face changed our perspectives and expanded our awareness of the truth that goes on behind the textile industry so we wanted to shake things up and create a new normal. We believe in addressing both the social justice issues of fair trade and ethically made textiles as well as the environmental impact. From a GOTS perspective we love working with GOTS certified cotton as we know this is the gold standard for the industry with no half measures or loopholes. It is a strict certification that we know no toxic chemicals are being used from seed to shelf protecting everyone from the farmers to the consumers as well as the land and waterways. For there to be real change in the world these issues need to be understood and addressed.

What were the main challenges you faced in order to get it launched; and are you still facing these challenges today?

Neither Dushyant and I have come from a retail or marketing or design or textiles background so we have had to learn along the way through our mistakes, enquiry and being in the industry with our vision and passion keeping us going. It has taken a few years to refine and learn so we feel we are in a great position now to only grow.

What were the most memorable, defying moments during this time?

We have had many moments along the way that we look back in awe of how far we have come. We have enjoyed exploring all avenues along the way like having a retail store to moving online, moving from operations in our own garage to a warehouse, working with leading influencers and change makers in this space.  Watching thousands of orders trickle during promotions such as Boxing Day is also very exciting since it shows the movement towards positive consumerism is catching on.

What helped you to see it through to the end?

When we know and see the realities of what goes on in the textile industry and the wave of fast fashion, the stories of the people we work with and their smiles and their goals and their dreams keeps us going. Knowing we are making a positive impact on the Earth as well as to other fellow human beings keeps us going. Knowing the state of the world and knowing we need to fight for what we stand on and stand up on issues like climate change, ethical production, education for all children keeps us going. And being a mother and knowing the world I am giving to my daughter I feel envigoured every day to make a better world for our future generations.

What are your plans for the next 5 years?

We are a fast growing sustainable direct to consumer brand and are on a mission to pave the way for a new era in the textile industry. We love helping people build their home organic sanctuary. We will continue to grow our offerings across the ranges of Bed Bath Basics & Sleepwear across all fabrics suitable for all seasons and open this up globally. In time we will look to open a line for Teenagers and give them an avenue for organic, sustainable and ethically produced items.
